GENERAL CRIME REDUCTION REMINDER – Theft from and of vehicles can be a very upsetting crime and can cause a great deal of inconvenience. However such crimes can often be prevented by taking a little time to ensure that vehicles are left secure and with nothing left inside to tempt the would-be criminal. Ensure vehicle keys are kept safely when in your home and not left near the front door – consider shielding keyless fobs by using signal blocker wallets (available on line).

CRIME REDUCTION: there is often an increase in crimes at this time of year where property has been left insecure. Please make sure that you close and lock accessible windows and doors whenever possible and always when property is unattended. Likewise garages, sheds, outbuildings should be kept secure, garden tools, furniture and equipment locked away when not in use. Vehicles should always be locked when unattended and ensure nothing is left on display. Simple steps will greatly reduce the likelihood of you becoming a victim of crime.

UPDATE. During the 2016 Operation Tonic the police charged 117 people with drink/drug driving offences across the force area. There were also 634 calls from the public with concerns about drivers resulting in a further 52 arrests. Police would like to thank everyone for their assistance and information during this operation.

REMINDER – always keep doors and windows locked when you leave your vehicle, even if its only for a short time. Don’t leave any items on display when vehicles are unattended – make sure they are removed or at least put out of sight. Keep vehicle keys in a safe place at home and not within easy reach of doors or visible through windows.

The Rural Crime and Neighbourhood Watch team will be located adjacent to the cattle showing rings – providing an information stop for co-ordinators and members. Staff in both locations will be able to advise on a number of issues and you may able to get 'up and personal’ with our police dogs and police horses who will also be giving displays of their work in some of the public arenas.

GENERAL - Rogue traders are criminals who take advantage of people by using high-pressure sales techniques. Their work is often overpriced, poor quality or not required at all. A distraction burglar is someone who tricks their way into your home and then distracts you while they steal your valuables or cash. If you do not know who is calling at your home and you didn't invite them there, remember - it's your doorstep and your decision, so be confident, and turn them away.
